Prep Ultimate Logo Contest

The Prep Ultimate team is looking for submissions of possible team logos. In the same manner that the Eagles have their eagle head on the helmet, or the 76ers have "76ers" on theirs, or the Flyers have their... ok well you get my point. Submissions may be dropped off in the main office in the manilla folder marked, "Prep Ultimate Logo Contest", or emailed to me @ mmccabe@gmail.com. Logos must contain only one color (black), with clearly defined lines and preferably have something to do with our team name/mascot the Hawk.

The winner of the contest will get a team jersey with his logo on it, as well as a disc (frisbee) made by Discraft also engrained with the logo.

If you want, you can have two submissions with the same theme - one for the disc design, one for the jersey design. If you have any questions, talk to Matt McCabe (me).

Specifications for Designs (From Discraft.com - Where we will be getting the discs printed)
(to see the figures associated with the following specifications, click here)

ALL DESIGNS
Please read carefuly
• COPYRIGHT RULES:
Discraft Inc. will not print any copyrighted material without the expressed written consent of the author, artist, or designer. If you use any copyrighted material in your design, you need to obtain a copyright release from the owner and submit it with your artwork. Examples of copyrighted material include cartoon characters, corporate logos, and school mascots. We also need a release from your school if you use its name in your design (For example "Northern Michigan University"). You may also not use the term "FRISBEE" in your design. See figure1

• ACCEPTABLE CONTENT:
Almost anything goes… feel free to put any wacky thing you would like in your design, but please avoid sexually explicit, obscene, or vulgar language and images.

• LINE THICKNESS:
Thin lines will not print well… please keep all lines at least 1/32" (1mm) thick, which is about 2 points in a computer drawing program. Super fine details are generally not suggested for hot stamp designs. When lines are reversed (i.e., the underlying disc color "showing through" a solid printed area), they need to be a little thicker so they don't fill in… at least 2 points. See figure2

• POINTED LINES & SHAPES:
Very fine points are not recommended since the hot stamp foil may start to peel from that point. To prevent this, slightly round off all fine points at the ends of lines and in other small shapes. See figure3

• TEXT:
Text should be sans-serif and at least 12 points in size. Serif fonts do not print well since the serifs are so fine… if you choose a serif font, it must be bold and at least 28 points. If a text style is especially funky, i.e sporting extra flourishes or with unorthodox letter shapes, it may need to be a little larger than stated above. Also, text printed in reverse (the underlying disc color "showing through" a solid printed area), it needs to be a little larger as well so it doesn't fill in. The minimum size for reversed text varies depending on the font used. See figure3a

• AVOID LARGE SOLID AREAS:
Because hot stamp printing is akin to placing a sticker on the disc surface (albeit much more permanent!). Large solid areas do not work as air bubbles would become trapped under them. The largest solid areas in your design cannot exceed 1/2" (12mm) square, about the size of a nickel. This is probably the most significant limitation in hot stamp printing, and often the most frustrating to accommodate! NOTE: Large solid areas can be broken up using a black and white fill pattern, such as lines, dots, waves, etc. See figure 4. Please make sure the dots or lines are not too small; a minimum of 25 dots per inch is recommended for fill patterns, and lines should comply with the line thickness specs below. See figure 5 and 7. If areas are too solid they can be broken up with patterns. See figure 6.

• ARTWORK SIZE:
The maximum printing area is 6.75 inches / 17.2 cm for the 175g Ultra-Star™, 6.5 inches / 16.3 cm for the 160g Sky-Styler™, then 5.38 inches / 13.25 cm for the 125 Sky-Pro™, and finally 4.5 / 11.43 cm inches for any golf disc. Please indicate if your design should not be enlarged to fit maximum imprint area.

• ARTWORK PLACEMENT:
All artwork will be printed in the center of the disc, unless otherwise specified. If your design is not circular or is smaller than the maximum printing indicate where you would like the design placed on the disc (within the maximum printing area). * Inches are divided into 32nd 16th 8th 4th(gtr), no 7th's

TWO COLOR DESIGNS

• REGISTRATION MARKS:
Please include registration marks on a two color design. The easiest registration mark to make is an "X". Place the registration mark on each piece of paper in the same place. Put the mark in at least two corners out side of the imprint area. If you submit a two or three -color design, you are acknowledging that perfect registration is impossible to achieve, so your design should allow for this.

• COLOR SEPARATION:
Each color of your design should be on a separate piece of paper. The closest the two colors should be is 1/16 of an inch / .16 cm (4.50 points). This is due to slight shifting of the color plated during the printing process… exact registration is not possible so the gap between colors ensures that there's a small amount of room for the layers to move without the colors printing on top of each other.
