·          Our program is participation based, with a no-cut policy.  Our philosophy is consistent with the SJP ideal of “a healthy mind in a healthy body,” developing the “whole” person through the athletic experience.  We strive for excellence in academics and athletics, both of which are crucial for a successful program.  We promote good sportsmanship and strive to enhance the academic, physical, social and emotional development of our young men.  We maintain an environment which teaches the values of self-discipline, respect, responsibility, fairness and positive competition, and a spirit of excellence.

·          The Ice Hawks have 2 teams which participate in the InterCounty Scholastic Hockey League’s AAA Varsity Division (the area’s top Varsity division) and JV A Division of the InterCounty Scholastic Hockey League (ICSHL) with a total of 34 student athletes.

·          The program is in its 9^th year and rapidly has become one of the area’s most respected clubs, participating in the 12-team Flyers Cup AAA division where the team was seeded 7th in 2009-2010.

·          Our coaching staff is led by Ed Austin, well known to the Delaware Valley ice hockey community.  Ed has been with the program for 6 years, 5 as the Head Coach.  With almost 30 years of coaching experience, Ed has coached almost every age group from “Learn-to-Skate” to Juniors (appearing in a National Championship tournament in mid '80s), including Head Coach of LaSalle University from 1987 through 1994.  Ed can be contacted at hockey@sjprep.org.

·          The season begins with a 4-day team camp at The Lawrenceville School and, during the school year, the teams practice twice a week after school at the University of Pennsylvania Class of ‘23 Rink.  The program also runs a 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grade clinic during the summer.

·          Each team plays 20-25 games per season, supplementing its league schedule with additional games against non-league opponents.

·          In early December, the Varsity team performed very well in the annual Princeton Day School Tournament.

·          Over the Christmas holidays, the Varsity team finished second in a field of 8 teams at the prestigious Gonzaga Purple Puck Tournament in Washington, D.C., losing a close game in the finals to Garden Valley Collegiate from Manitoba, Canada.
