While
the courses are paired
thematically, it
is not necessary
to take the first
semester course before
taking the second
semester course of
the pair. Students
who take both semesters
will have a fuller
experience as the
first semester will
enhance the knowledge
base upon which to
draw for the second
semester.
The
selection of courses
is geared to provide
optimum choice according
to interest. Unfortunately
there are limitations
to being able to
provide all students
with their first
selection. Each course
will only have one
section which can
conflict with other
courses a student
selects in other
subjects that also
have only one section.
Also two pairs of
the five will not
run in any given
year. The American
Art History courses
will alternate from
year to year with
the European Art
History courses.
The American Art
History courses will
be available in the
2005-2006 school
year. The European
Art History will
be available in the
2006-2007 school
year. Some planning
ahead would be advisable.
Of the three pairs
of studio-based courses
(drawing/painting,
ceramics/sculpture
and graphic design
illustration &
publications) only
two will be available
each year. That decision
will be based on
enrollment figures.
The two pairs with
the highest subscription
will run.
Summer
Courses
Each
summer the fine arts
department offers
two 1/2 credit courses
so that students
have the option of
fulfilling their
art requirement during
the summer break.
These courses are
dependent upon a
minimum number of
students to run.
During the first
three weeks of the
high school summer
session students
can take the art
foundation course
Visual Language.
During the second
three weeks students
can take Italian
Renaissance Art which
includes a ten-day
trip to Northern
Italy. More information
on each course can
be found by clicking
on the appropriate
link on the left. |
